![]() Amy Martin knows how important sustainability is, and incorporates it into her work these ways: Creating plant ecosystems that sustain bioadversity and health of plants, which offer habitats for native wildlife and pollinators, like songbirds, bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Incorporating native plants, which require fewer resources to maintain, and which support native wildlife. Managing rainwater run-off, to prevent pollutants from entering local streams and bays. Creating rain gardens, swales, dry riverbeds, ponds and retention systems, which are not only vital, but also beautiful. Conserving water by using drought-resistant plants and water retention systems. Building hardscapes with renewable, permeable resources, and using salvage materials when possible, such as historic brick pavers and antique iron gates. Using and promoting organic land care practices, such as natural insect management, the use of organic fertilizers, and planting ground covers to block weeds. |
